| Abstract: | This essay looks at the role of libraries and archives in both the establishment and development of digital research infrastructures across the humanities. A library hosting electronic journals published by a university requires considerable resourcing and such indirect funding is hardly sustainable. Moreover, in view of the cooperation between the Zentralbibliothek Zürich (Zurich Central Library) and the Johann Caspar Lavater Historisch-kritische Edition ausgewählter Briefwechsel, it is now a matter of urgency to critically examine the sources of funding for digital research projects.
